ReflectionsThis page is dedicated to our calls of action and what we plan to do for the future of education and the safety of our countries that are struggling in the world.
Grace's ReflectionI feel as if I relate to this topic in a way because I have always been an advocate for women's rights. Not only because I am a woman, but we deserve equal rights for men and women. Malala starts her book by describing the moment she is shot by the Taliban. That moment is very surreal and scary for her to talk about, but she has the strength to deliberate on it and describe to her readers how she came to be.
My call to action is simply not taking education for granted. In our society, we say, "I don't want to go to school," or "I hate school." In Pakistan, they struggle to even get girls in school when everybody is pretty much required to go to school in America. I simply want to have it be known that countries around the world value education much more than us and we definitely take it for granted. I also want it to be known that some people around the world do not have education, especially women. We need to let it be known and take action. Taking action means having support groups, charities, and organizations to raise money or inform about the troubles that countries have with education and the value of it. Overall, my call to action includes improving the knowledge of people around me about the less fortunate countries who do not have education. |
Amanda's Reflection
I Am Malala, really inspired me. I have never read a book that ever did. But reading about what Malala does and how she wants to change the world, how she wants to make it better, it did something. It made me think that if one girl can some how change a part of the world, than so can other people. It does not matter what age a person is, if they care about something deeply enough, then they can change the world. Malala is a fighter. She has fought for woman's education, she has been shot, but she still goes on. She still fights for what she believes in. Hearing how her education was just taken from her, makes me feel bad that I take for granted that I get an education, while some do not. I do not want to act like I do not value my education, because I do. My call to action is making people aware, to make them aware that millions of people around the world do not have the same privileges as we are lucky enough to have. And for them to learn and spread the world that these millions of people need and should have an education. People should be able to learn to read, write, and more. I Am Malala has opened my eyes to what is happening around the world, and that no one should have to suffer the way millions of people have been suffering. This book has taught me that people need to stand up.
Tindi's Reflection
I Am Malala gave me a better understanding of how precious life is. Everyday I wake up and I have to drag my feet to school, listen to my teachers give another boring lecture, and get endless amounts of homework. At the same time a couple years ago, Malala was excited to have tests. TESTS! She values education so much, that she will go against the Taliban just to learn about algebra. Malala made me take a hard look in the mirror and see that I only have one life. I need to use it to the best of my ability. My call to action is to help people that is more to life than just passing by and barely making it. Our generation has the power to change the world, to make a difference around us, to change the way we view life. When Malala is older, she will look back at her life and she know that she spent her life doing something that has value, helping children get their education, making sure everyone has the privilege to receive education. I want to look back at my life and see that I did something that has value. I want my cause to be heard around the world. I want people to see that they have a purpose too. That they can make a ripple effect on the world. I don't want to look back and regret a choice that I didn't make because I didn't want to or maybe I didn't care. I want to look back and say "Yes, I know I did everything I could to make a difference. It was the best decision I have ever made."

Amy's Reflection
I am Malala is such an inspiring book. It teaches everyone how precious our lives are and how much we take things for granted. Malala pushes so much for women's education and rights. We take too much for granted in our lives. It was so inspiring how Malala wanted education so she did something about it, she made campaigns and everything. Knowing the Taliban might go after her, she still went on television and radios to inform people how passionate she is about women's education in Pakistan and how she believes things should change and get better. My call to action is to treat everyone equally. It seems like one person treating people equally doesn't do much, but it does. Treating a woman like a man, and a man like a woman seems insulting to some people, but why should it be? Women shouldn't be degraded. There are only 2 genders in this world, female and male; there aren't hundreds of genders, only two. Treating a woman like a man and a man like a woman should be the same thing, they should both get equal rights. Malala is one girl, and she fought for women's education, she spoke out which caused so many more people so speak out. Just by me treating people equal can maybe influence a friend, and if they do it they can influence another friend, etc. I don't think I can change the world, but I do believe that if every feminist out there can inform and help another person realize how women deserve rights, the world will change for the better.

Farnaz's Reflection
I am Malala inspired me so much, it showed you that you can stand up for what you believe in, Malala believed in fighting for her education and she was passionate for it and did everything she could to get what she wanted. Right when the book starts she talks about what actually happened the day that she left her home for school that morning and never returned, this taught me to live each minute to the fullest and not waste life because you to know when something unexpected like this is going to happen like an injury or anything life is so precious its painful to see the most important people gone or injured. Malala fought for what she wanted, education and she mostly got what she wanted and put a change to how people view eduation, she spoke out to influence not just some of the close people around her but the world around her, the other people that also wanted an education and changed how people though about education. In my opinion, school starts very early and students want to sleep in more to have more energy to learn and focus while the teacher is talking, but for Malala she is excited to go to school she is excited to sit in class and listen to her teachers lecture, she gets excited when the teacher hands out something or a test or quiz that’s how much Malala values her education and she will do anything that she can to stand up for it. This girl is fighter, she will do anything that she can to fight for her education, she was shot in the head and still made it alive, she is fighting for what she wants and will not let go until she gets that. This book is the best book I have read in a while anybody that likes action packed books or likes these kind of books should definitely read it, its definitely worth the time and read.
